Pikmin 4 Has Already Exceeded Final Fantasy 16’s Lifetime Sales in Japan with Over 400,000 Units Sold at Launch

Pikmin 4 enjoys the series' biggest launch in Japan to date, and has also already outsold Final Fantasy 16.

Pikmin 4 has enjoyed a bumper debut in Japan. The long-awaited real-time strategy sequel released for the Nintendo Switch last week, and with three days on the market, topped the latest weekly charts for physical sales in Japan, as per data released by Famitsu. It’s also the biggest ever launch for a Pikmin game in Japan to date, exceeding what Pikmin 3 Deluxe managed upon its release for the Switch in 2020 (over 171,000 physical units sold upon release).

Interestingly enough, Pikmin 4 has not only had a bigger physical launch in Japan than Final Fantasy 16 (which sold over 336,000 units upon release last month), but with just three days on the market, it has also already exceeded the lifetime sales of the PS5-exclusive action RPG.

Pikmin 4 also debuted on top of the weekly UK physical sales charts, seeing a debut 45% bigger than that of Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

Koei Tecmo’s Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening also debuted in Japan last week, and occupies two places in the software charts, with the Nintendo Switch version taking fourth place and the PS4 version following close behind at No. 5. Both versions sold over 10,000 units each.

On the hardware front, the Switch continues to lead the way, unsurprisingly, with over 71,000 units sold, while the PS5 follows behind by quite some margin, having moved over 46,000 units over the course of the week.
