In an announcement that’s going to delight PlayStation fans from around the world, Sony is introducing The Playerbase, an interesting new program that’s aimed at bringing some of the brand’s biggest fans to some of its best titles, beginning with Gran Turismo 7.
Here’s how it works. You apply to participate in the program (applications open today) using your PlayStation ID and a little bit of “additional information”, and wait to see if your application is part of the final pool of players. Next, you have a video interview with Sony’s representatives where you’ll be quizzed about your time with PlayStation titles. An interview where you get to discuss your favorite games with the publisher that oversees them? That’s definitely interesting!
Finally, if you’re lucky enough, your portrait is going to be a part of Gran Turismo 7 where it functions similarly to other in-game characters. You also design your own Fantasy Logo and a custom kit for the game’s many vehicles.
If you don’t make it, don’t be disheartened. Gran Turismo 7 is just the beginning for The Playerbase, with Sony looking to expand the program to other titles from PlayStation Studios. You can read the full announcement here.
