One of the first questions that people always ask critics about systems that have failed commercially, such as the Wii U, or the PlayStation Vita, is ‘would you buy it at…,’ taking the price lower and lower until they find a price point that said critic of the system would be comfortable buying the system at.
Well, your answers to those questions, critics- a lot of them will say something like ‘I would buy it at a hundred bucks or less,’ which of course would never be tested, because the system will never in its life cycle be offered at such an absurdly low price- are about to be tested, as UK retailer Tesco is offering the PlayStation Vita for, I shit you not, £49.99. No, that’s not a typo or a system glitch, that is actually the price. It’s the new, Vita 2000 Slim model, which means it does not have any 3G functionality (which you shouldn’t care about), but it also does not have any OLED screen (which you should care about).
As for why it is being offered for so cheap- well, it’s a fair assumption that at this point, they are just clearing shelf space. The Vita has been an absolute dud at retail, moving even less units than Wii U by this point, and while Sony’s influence with retailers thanks to the better performing PS3 and PS4 has bought it some time, it looks like that’s at an end.
Whatever the reason might be, you guys should probably jump on that. Persona 4 Golden alone makes that deal worth it.
