The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been runaway hits in the UK, as collectively, the two have already sold 3 million units in the country, tracking far ahead of leading game retailer GAME’s expectations.
The PS4 hit the 1 million milestone in September, and the Xbox One followed in November; that makes for 2 million out of 3 million; we aren’t told how the other 1 million is split, though considering that the PS4 is more popular in the UK than the Xbox One, it’s not a stretch to assume it is slanted in Sony’s console’s favor. Sales numbers for Nintendo’s Wii U were not reported, though that is not a surprise- though the troubled console has been a surprise hit in mainland European markets, in the UK, it has been met with indifference and apathy.
Worldwide, the PS4 stands at over 20 million consoles sold, while the Xbox One was close to hitting 10 million shipped back in November (the figure has not been updated since then); Nintendo’s Wii U has sold 9.2 million units worldwide as of the end of last year.
