PS4 Firmware 1.72 Released

So much stability, and yet the PS4 still wobbles.

PS4 Firmware Update 1.70

PlayStation 4 firmware version 1.72 was just released; we don’t exactly have a full change log yet, but we do know (because of that, as a matter of fact) that the update is minor, possibly targeting a few of the bugs and glitches that pervade the PS4 OS.

The official word from Sony itself is rather brief: “PS4 System Software update 1.72 is now available. Improves system software stability and incorporates minor bug fixes. Enjoy.”

So it doesn’t sound like anything major, really- not like the kinds of updates that Microsoft releases for the Xbox One on a monthly basis, or that Nintendo releases for the Wii U at least twice a year. With multiple features that were promised for the PS4 at launch- such as Suspend/Resume and support for music- still missing, Sony needs to push out more substantive firmware updates.

In related news, the PS3 also got a minor firmware update, that adds stability to the system. The PS3 update brings the firmware up to version 4.60.
