The PS5 received its first major firmware update since launch last month, and it was a pretty big one. From adding support for SSD extensions to 3D audio on TV speakers to smaller but oft-requested features such as, for instance, shifting Trophy lists back from horizontal to positive, last month’s update did quite a lot of interesting stuff. And though Sony has many more ideas for similar changes and improvements, obviously not all PS5 updates are going to be on the same level.
Its newest one, PS5 software update version 21.02-04.02.00, is one of those- a minor update that doesn’t do much of anything of note. In fact, the update notes simply state that it “improves system performance”, which is the standard description for a lot of updates of similar notes across platforms. The software update has been rolled out, so there’s a good chance your console will have already updated.
Here’s hoping it isn’t too long before the next big PS5 update arrives and brings more noteworthy changes. Until then, at least we can be happy with… stability.
