Traveler’s Tales founder Jon Burton recently stated that Insomniac’s claims of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart‘s rift mechanic being possible only on PS5 are misleading. Burton has directed several Lego games before, and reveals this information on his YouTube channel. Check out the video below.
He claims that this mechanic could have easily been implemented in PS3 hardware, and isn’t the definitive next-gen experience that Sony was touting it to be prior to the game’s launch. He backs his sentiment by saying that sections where players rapidly move through different worlds don’t have a lot of interactivity, which puts them roughly in the scripted set-piece territory.
That being said, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart features some stunning visuals – the likes of which hasn’t been seen before. However, Horizon Forbidden West and the unnamed God of War sequel will also be releasing on PS4 – which questions the viability of Insomniac’s latest being exclusive to Sony’s next gen machine.
