A false positive.

While at this point, it is more and more clear that a Red Dead Redemption sequel – a Red Dead 3is in fact coming, we don’t have anything in the way of official confirmation. Hungry fans, who have been waiting for a sequel to the 2010 hit for years now, have therefore taken to trying to scout out information on an upcoming Red Dead 3 announcement themselves.

Earlier today, for example, a report emerged that users had managed to find references to a Red Dead Retribution in the source code of Rockstar’s website, fueling speculation that a Red Dead 3 was indeed coming, and that it would be called Red Dead Retribution. However, as PowerUpGaming are reporting, people are jumping to conclusions here.

A simple look at the source code that was shared by the user earlier today confirms that the reference to Red Dead Retribution is essentially a false positive. The code in question was part of Rockstar’s site analytics, tracking previous URLs the user had tried to access- in this case, the user had tried to access a URL for Red Dead Retribution and also Red Dead Redemption 2.

So no, the site code does not prove anything. But at this point, it’s all but confirmed that a Red Dead 3 is coming anyway. Now we just wait for the official announcement.
