I think it is safe to conclude that everyone is eagerly awaiting whatever Nintendo’s star development team Retro Studios may have up their sleeves next- after all, they brought back Metroid and Donkey Kong in spectacular fashion over the last decade. What will they be doing next?

A lot of people have expected Retro to return to the Metroid series- the franchise has been largely dormant for a while, and Nintendo needs it now more than ever, especially since it is one of their few mature IPs geared towards a western market. However, according to well known Nintendo insider Emily Rogers, Retro Studios are indeed working on a new NX game- but it won’t be Metroid.

Before you get too panicked, know that it won’t be Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong Racing either- as a matter of fact, it sounds like it will be a new IP.

Now, when Nintendo does do new IPs, which is rarely, the results are spectacular- Xenoblade and Splatoon are a testament to that. And with Retro Studios being as freakishly talented, and with their western development mindset, I can’t wait to see what the team may have up their sleeves, either. Here is hoping this is one rumor that turns out to be true.
