The Sumo Digital-developed Sackboy: A Big Adventure launched simultaneously on the PS5 and PS4 last month, bringing Sackboy out of the 2d sidescrollers he’s starred in thus far and putting him front and centre in a charming 3D platformer. Though it hasn’t been the biggest PS5 launch title, it’s been received well by players and critics alike, and now, it’s received a new update to add a number of major features to the game.

The biggest of these new additions is online multiplayer, which has been confirmed for some time now, which allows you to pair up with up to three other players beyond just local co-op in any of the game’s levels. Notably, the game has also received new content to play through in the form of 10 new co-op levels.

Any progress you make here will carry over to your save once you jump back into single player, so you’ll get to keep all the orbs you collect. Additionally, high scores within levels will be given to the entire team as a whole rather than a single player, so everything that all four players do will count towards that score.

Meanwhile, Sackboy: A Big Adventure has also added some crucial cross-gen features. For starters, you can now transfer your saves across PS4 and PS5 (it has to be done from within the game itself). Additionally, cross-gen cross-platform multiplayer is also possible, so you can play with others regardless of whether they’re playing on PS5 or PS4.

In our review of the game, we called Sackboy: A Big Adventure “a delightful platformer that mostly does a great job despite playing a bit too easy most of the time.” You can read our full review through here.
