With series director Sakurai finally having come around on the concept of DLC for Super Smash Bros., and his enthusiasm to develop it having been renewed, it’s nice to speculate on just what we might see added to the game in the future. So far, most of that speculation has been limited to new character additions to the game’s already extensive (and growing) roster, but apparently, it’s not just the roster that will grow with Smash DLC- Sakurai has confirmed that he is looking to add more modes and online functionality to the game as well.

“Given the different types of content we’re producing, it wouldn’t be surprising for the planning of one item to coincide with the development, balancing, and finalization of several others. We also have version updates, online features, and additional modes to worry about. It can be quite overwhelming, but it’s all about making players happy,” he said in his Famitsu column (translation via Nintendo News).

Personally, I am eager to see just what he has planned- Smash Bros. was already a staggeringly extensive game, especially on Wii U. To see it expand even more feels a bit surreal, but is of course entirely welcome.
