Free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online RPG Salem has got a new trailer revealing the economic system.
“The economy will be based around a store owned by the “game” that players can trade and purchase items from, ” explained Björn Johannessen, Creative Director. “When trading you’ll receive silver based on the value of the resource traded. With this silver you can then buy inaccessible resources or ones you don’t want to spend time gathering. The store will also offer the option to buy silver with real world currency. It’s key for us that all items will be purchasable with the in-game silver only, so all players, whether playing for free or not, can buy any item for sale .”
Salem has become synonymous with its controversial permanent death feature, a fresh twist on the MMORPG that introduces real risk as players push deeper into the new world, as well as giving them greater control of their towns and allowing for frontier justice in a potentially lethal Player-versus-Player (PvP) environment. Peaceful farming communities will have to remain vigilant, lest they find their way of life turned upside-down by witchcraft, thievery or even murder.
Salem is scheduled for a Q2, 2012 release.
