Sea of Stars, Sabotage Studio’s eagerly awaited turn-based RPG, is out on August 29th. A new trailer was revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct, showcasing more of the retro aesthetic and composer Yasunori Mitsuda’s music. A demo is also out today for Nintendo Switch.

Inspired by classic RPGs like Illusion of Gaia and Breath of Fire, Sea of Stars is about the Children of the Solstice who can use Eclipse Magic. They journey through the world, battling The Fleshmancer and his creations. Combat is timing-based – by pressing the action button at the right time, you can execute combos, deal more damage, and take less damage.

There are no random encounters or grinding, and exploration entails jumping, climbing, swimming and more. As players progress through the story, they’ll encounter “dozens” of characters with different story arcs. There are also activities like sailing, fishing, a tabletop game called Wheels, cooking, and more.

Sea of Stars is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 and PS5.
