Thanks to a super well received bunch of releases, Sega has been going from strength to strength this year on the backs of games like Persona 5 and Sonic Mania, with a stumbling block or two forcing its way in there. During the group interview with 4Gamer, Yakuza Executive Producer Toshihiro Nagoshi spoke briefly of Sega’s plans for the new year.

The company is mostly going to be working on delivering announced titles in 2018, but there are a few surprises to be revealed on the horizon. Yakuza Kiwami 2 Director Hiroyuki Sakamoto might have dropped one of those surprises with a code name “Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku”, or “New Yakuza” for reveal at the proper moment. We know only that it’s a sequel and is expected to star a new protagonist named Kasuga Ichiban.

This New Yakuza isn’t necessarily part of what Nagoshi was talking about, or at least the only game he might have been forshadowing, as he doubles as Sega’s Chief Creative Officer as well, and so could be handling far more projects than just that.
