The writing was on the wall with Sekiro and how well it would do commercially. Immediately upon release, the FromSoftware title was topping all kinds of charts. It debuted on top of sales charts in Japan (where it sold through almost all of its first shipment) and the UK, while also becoming the most successful Steam launch of 2019, and also topping paid games charts for the Xbox One.

Now, Activision and FromSoftware have announced the full extent of just how good of a start the shinobi action title has got off too- and it’s pretty impressive. Within ten days of release, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has crossed sales of 2 million units worldwide. They also confirmed that on the day of its release, Sekiro was the number 1 most viewed game on Twitch. During its launch weekend, 631 million minutes of the game were watched on Twitch, and by the end of the first week after release, that number had climbed up to 1.1 billion minutes.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has brought something very special and unique to Activision’s portfolio of games,” said Michelle Fonseca, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at Activision. “It’s been an honor to work with FromSoftware to help introduce a brand-new franchise to gamers around the world. The fans have made Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice one of the most incredible game launches of 2019 thus far. The game has performed well on all platforms including PC and we’re excited by the continued support from gamers and critics alike. It has been gratifying to see the enjoyment from fans when they overcome each challenge.”

If you’ve read our review for Sekiro, you probably know that we think it’s more than deserving of all the praise and success it has received since launch. If you haven’t, you can do so through here.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
