Shin Megami Tensei 5 Sells Over 143,000 Units Upon Japanese Debut

Nintendo Switch games dominate the top 10 software charts, while the console itself dominates the hardware side of things.

Famitsu has released its latest weekly charts for hardware sales and physical software sales in Japan. As the biggest new release of the week, Shin Megami Tensei 5 has, unsurprisingly, topped the charts with over 143,000 units sold. Though it didn’t sell as much as launch as Shin Megami Tensei 4 did, it’s worth noting that these numbers don’t include digital sales, and the ratio of digital sales is significantly higher now than it used to be when SMT 4 launched for the 3DS.

Meanwhile, the expansion for Dragon Quest 10 (which is still only available in Japan) has collectively sold over 34,000 units on debut as well, with its Switch version (over 22,000 units sold) coming in at No. 3 and the PS4 version (over 11,000 units sold) taking No. 5. Call of Duty: Vanguard’s PS4 version, which debuted at No. 2 last week, has dropped down to No. 6, while the PS5 version drops out of the top 10 entirely.

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch is, once again, the best-selling console of the week, selling about as much as it did last week. The PS5 sold disappointing numbers, though with the console’s supply continuing to be throttled all over the world, it’s hard to judge the actual merits of its performance.
