As heartening as it is to see the horror genre in such good shape, there’s still a massive void that’s been left behind in the absence of classic old-school survival horror games. With its fixed cameras and tank controls, Tormented Souls is a game that is targeted at a very specific audience that’s looking for that kind of an experience, and it weaponizes that nostalgia in all the right ways. It can be a little obtuse at times, and could have done with a little more polished, but by and large, this is an intricately designed and, most importantly, genuinely creepy game that feels like a gift for fans of the genre.
