Sonic Forces Enables A Long Held Fan Fantasy, Lets Players Make Custom Characters

Sega, what have you done?

Sega has finally given in to the darkest, dankest corners of Sonic fandom- the upcoming Sonic Forces, the new flagship 3D Sonic game due out later this year, from the makers of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, will apparently let players – hold me, here – make custom characters to play as in the game.

The custom character will be playable in a third new style of gameplay alongside the previously advertised Classic and Modern styles- Hero Style. You’ll even be able to equip wispons (think wisps from Sonic Colors) to these custom characters, giving them their own unique powers.

You can check out a trailer showcasing this, as well as a bullet list of the kinds of characters you can create, for yourself below. Sonic Forces launches later this year on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. May the powers that be have mercy on our soul for the Sonic fan art that is about to be unleashed on us all.

  • Wolf – Automatically draws in rings when near them
  • Rabbit – Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
  • Cat – Keeps one ring after being hit
  • Dog – Restarts with five rings after the player dies
  • Bear – Blows away enemies with a homing attack
  • Bird – Flies high with double jump abilities
  • Hedgehog – Collects rings when getting damaged
