Sonic Frontiers received a new trailer recently, showcasing the game’s Cyber Space levels that adhere to the more linear 3D platforming of yore. However, Sega and Sonic Team also released several new details. Story-wise, Sonic has traveled to the Starfall Islands to find the Chaos Emeralds and his “lost friends.”

A “strange voice” guides him throughout, but there’s also Sage, a strange girl that appears throughout the archipelago. She’s constantly telling Sonic to leave though to what end is unknown. Sage is also seemingly capable of controlling the new foes encountered throughout, including the massive Titan.

In the latest trailer, Sonic uses a parry when dealing with foes. Dodges and counters are also available but those seeking a less complicated battle system can enable Auto Mode. This lets you execute various attacks and combos with one button.

Two control styles – Action and High Speed – are also available, the former allowing for “more accurate platforming” for new players. High Speed is meant for long-time fans and offers a higher degree of speed.

Sonic Frontiers is out this Holiday season for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. An average playthrough offers 20 to 30 hours of gameplay, though completionists can easily double that time.
