Sony Bend Dev Says Days Gone Is “Unlike Any Other”

Yet another zombie game?

Sony Bend’s Days Gone was revealed earlier at E3 and is (aren’t they all), a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game.  The game’s protagonist, Deacon St. John, is a bounty hunter in a post-apocalyptic America, braving the Great Basin desert in the interior of the Pacific Northwest. Judging it just on those terms, it may seem like yet another by-the-numbers zombie apocalypse survival game (hello Dying Light. And State of Decay. And Dead Island and Dead Rising and…)

However, Days Gone does appear to have some features that make it stand apart. For one, the game’s “Freakers” (i.e. generic zombie stand-ins), aren’t quite as generic as you’d suspect. They don’t exhibit the usual zombie invulnerability–you don’t need to headshot a Freaker to take him down.

In an interview with Venturebeat, Bend’s Ron Allen insisted that Days Gone is indeed a unique experience. Allen mentioned that the game has highly dynamic weather, alternating from desert conditions to snow in just one in-game day. The game is also set to feature resource management though, as a zombie survival game, we’d be surprised if it didn’t.
