Nintendo blew the socks off of everybody this week when they finally took the wraps off of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the newest installment in the long running action adventure saga. The new game has players around the world enraptured, and was by far and away the most popular game shown at E3– it even managed to make our own Best of E3 list. It was a great game, and regardless of your thoughts on the franchise, or Nintendo at large, if you have any appreciation for games, you probably had to sit up and take notice of what Nintendo had to show.

One such person who recognized the game for its brilliance was Sony Worldwide Studios’ head Shuhei Yoshida. In a recent post E3 round table discussion he had with the PlayStation team, Yoshida gushed about the new Zelda game, which he has apparently played, and how excited he is for it to release already.

“I just played Zelda, the new Zelda game, with its open world and hunting, and I had the feeling that this feels like Horizon, you know, this is an epic, huge, game, and I can’t wait to play Zelda when it finally comes out,” he said.

It’s excellent to see that he can recognize a great game for what it is in spite of the position he is in- as the head of Sony’s worldwide development, he would be very justified in ignoring other games, and simply playing up what he has. But no, he saw a great game, and he made sure to recognize it for what it was. Mad respect for Yoshida- he just keeps on showing how passionate he really is about the medium.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches on the Nintendo NX and Wii U in 2017.
