Sony targeting 13 million PS3 sales in fiscal year 12

Sony’s Jim Ryan has revealed to Videogamer that they are targeting 13 million PS3’s for the fiscal year starting from April 2012 to March 2013. He believes that there’s enough software coming to the PS3 to shift 13 million consoles, and SWWS’ Shuhei Yoshida has delivered a solid line-up from their first-party to make it possible.

“We’re really just focussing on PS3 right now,” he said. “We’ve got a target, which is a matter of public record, of 13 million units to sell this fiscal year. It’s pretty demanding, but given the software that was on display we’ve got a pretty good crack at that.

“I’m given demanding, aggressive numbers to meet, and that’s what I’m focussed on right now. I think [SCE Worldwide Studios president] Shuhei Yoshida’s team has given me the tools to do that. I’m going to go out there and nail it.”

It remains to be seen if Sony can achieve that without a price cut which is overdue for the PS3. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
