It’s fair to say that Star Wars: Battlefront II has stirred up quite a lot of controversy, most of which has exploded all over the internet during the last few weeks. From DICE’s controversial Reddit AMA session (which saw one of their comments becoming the most downvoted comment in the history of the website), to investigations across the globe that can actually lead to legislations over predatory practices in video games, to comments about how the loot boxes in Battlefront II actually amount to gambling, EA have truly managed to kick up a veritable storm.
So it’s fair to say that the flak EA and DICE have been receiving over the game is quite well earned. In fact, fans have now found another way to protest against EA’s predatory microtransactions model. Both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Star Wars: Battlefront II are the second lowest rated games of all time on their respective platforms, with a user rating of 0.6/10 on the former and 0.9/10 on the latter, after votes that number in the thousands.
Of course, that’s not an actual reflection on the quality of the game in general, but it does show the immense amount of dissatisfaction in the community. Ghostbusters remains the lowest rated game on both the systems.
Battlefront II launched earlier this month for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and it’s fair to say that all the bad press has affected the sales quite significantly. For example, the game’s physical sales in the UK are 60 per cent down from the sales for its predecessors. You can read our report on it here.
