Star Wars Battlefront 2 PC Errors and Fixes: DirectX Errors, Game Crashes, Settings Errors, and More

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has had… a messy launch. But if you do decide to go ahead and play it, there is one thing you will find, at least for the PC version. It’s mostly well optimized. This makes sense- DICE is, after all, a developer that found its start making great games for PC. Now, there are still quite a few errors that have cropped up with the PC version of the game- and in this guide, we help you out with them.

But first, the specs:

Minimum:

• OS: 64-bit Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
• Processor (AMD): AMD FX-6350.
• Processor (Intel): Intel Core i5 6600K.
• Memory: 8GB RAM.
• Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB.
• Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB.
• DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent.
• Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection.
• Hard-drive space: 15GB.

Recommended:

• OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later.
• Processor (AMD): AMD FX 8350 Wraith.
• Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 6700 or equivalent.
• Memory: 16GB RAM.
• Graphics card (AMD): AMD.
• Radeon RX 480 4GB.
• Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB.
• DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent.
• Online Connection.
• Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection.
• Hard-drive space: 15GB.

GENERAL FIXES

Generally speaking, some basic troubleshooting tips should always help you resolve whatever issue you are facing with the PC version of any game. If you are running into problems, maybe first attempt the following steps, and if they don’t work out, look into some of the more specific fixes we have below.

• Make sure the drivers on your PC are updated
• If you have two GPUs, make sure you are using the discrete GPU instead of the integrated one
• Set Star Wars Battlefront 2‘s priority to High in the Task Manager Turn off any background programs, including firewalls, chat clients, video recorders, and overlays
• Try lowering visual settings on the game to see if that improves game performance
• Make sure you have Windows updated before you attempt to play Star Wars Battlefront 2.

GAME RANDOMLY RESTARTS

• Run the game using DirectX 12

GAME WON’T RUN IN DIRECTX 12

• Go to the Documents folder,  and then to Star Wars Battlefront II\settings. Open the BootOptions in a text editor and change “GstRender.EnableDx12 0” to “GstRender.EnableDx12 1” (or vice versa, if you want to disable DirectX 12).

GAME CRASHES

• Run %ProgramData%, open the Origin folder, and delete everything within it. Do the same for %AppData%. After this, click on the “AppData” at the top of the window. Open the “Local” folder. Delete the Origin folder here. Now restart the PC.

BLACK SCREEN

• Yep, you already know what to do- switch to Windowed mode (Alt-Enter is your friend)

SETTINGS KEEP CHANGING TO DEFAULT

• Disable cloud storage

DETECTED DRIVER 0.0.0

• Go to the Documents folder,  and then to Star Wars Battlefront II\settings. Open the BootOptions in a text editor and change “GstRender.EnableDx12 1” to “GstRender.EnableDx12 0”

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of the game.
