NOTE: There are spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and potential spoilers for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Respawn Entertainment and EA recently formally unveiled Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, promising that the upcoming action-adventure title will expand upon its 2019 predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, in several ways. While the aspect that they’ve chosen to speak about the most until now is the combat, it looks like it’s also going to do some things on the narrative front that are sure to excite fans.
Speaking during the recent XboxEra podcast, XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker claimed that based on what he’s heard, fan-favourite former Sith Lord turned criminal mastermind Darth Maul will have a role to play in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Baker says he heard this about a year ago, so there’s a chance that plans could have changed- though sure enough, Star Wars fans would absolutely love to see that happen.
The timeline definitely aligns. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set about five years after Fallen Order, which means it’s set roughly around the same time as the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Maul is very much alive around this time- though he gets chopped in half by Kenobi at the end of The Phantom Menace, it is revealed in animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars that he did not die, and has a prominent role in both The Clone Wars and fellow animated series Star Wars: Rebels. He also makes a brief appearance towards the end of the film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Given the fact that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order boasted an appearance by none other than Darth Vader himself towards the end, it goes without saying that expectations will be high for its sequel. Whether or not Respawn chooses to respond to that by roping Maul into the game’s story remains to be seen, though that’s certainly what fans will be hoping for.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will launch sometime in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
