Development

There is no officially mentioned date that mentions the time that development started on Sunset Overdrive, but it has clearly been in the works for quite some time. One of things that was taken away from the games official reveal at E3 2013 was that the game was blazing with colour and personality in stark contrast to many of the other games on show. When questioned about this, Insomniac Games Ceo Ted Stark has said, “We’re focusing on fun and style over realism. The visuals represent what Insomniac does best – over-the-top, exaggerated, colorful style. And that style is driven by the game’s story theme of freedom and self-expression. This is us truly enjoying the chance to shoot expectations in the head, to be different, to deliver on the brash and irreverent tone that’s on display in our reveal trailer.”

The game is expected to make use of the Xbox Ones “Cloud Computing” (a means of better delegating computing via the inclusion of an online connection) to make the games world seem more alive and changing. The reasoning behind this is to include various user submitted ideas as well as make use of popular culture by including popular internet memes. A quote from Ted Stark that says, “Don’t like something? Tell us. Got an idea for something cool in the game? Speak up! We’re building systems to support rapid content updates. I’m talking about pop culturally relevant content like memes and social commentary, new weapons, new characters, and more. And because “Sunset Overdrive” is a stylized, satirical game we’re not limited by some strict idea of what’s “appropriate” aroused some doubts in gamers recently.

While Insomniac Games may not judge certain ideas as “appropriate” Microsoft certainly does, this was made clear recently when players started suffering penalties in their games after their Kinect sensors detected swearing. This has garnered some concern among gamers and some assume that it will impact Sunset Overdrive as well

Story

There is very little known about the actual plot of Sunset Overdrive, what has been confirmed is how the game’s setting comes to be, plot details have been kept a well guarded secret. Insomniac Games CEO Ted price has said”you’re living in this city that has just gone through a catastrophic event. Most of its inhabitants have been turned into these mutants or have been killed. You, however, have been in a dead end job for a while and you’re not experiencing the city as your playground. This is a place where you can actually have a lot of fun as you figure out how to deal with these crazy creatures who have shown up overnight.”

Gameplay

The game is set in a large open world enviroment that the player will do battle with various “mutants”. Sunset Overdrive is a third person open world shooter that will place an emphasis on the ability to move around the map quickly and with a measure of agility. This means the inclusion of things like wall running, zip lines and various acrobatic tricks to help traverse the enviroment as well as avoid and combat the aforementioned mutants.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.
