Super Mario Maker Patch Removes 9 Day Restriction

There, are you happy now?

Mario Maker

One of the most annoying – and inexplicable – restrictions on Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker was how all tools would not be available from the get go- rather, they would unlock over a period of the next nine days automatically. It made no sense to have them timegated like that, and only added an annoying wrinkle nobody really liked. Everyone understood the ostensible reason – Nintendo wanted players to get familiar with each new set of tools before jumping into the next one – but it was still dumb.

Well, you’ll be happy to know the restriction no longer applies. Patch 1.01 for Super Mario Maker will be available at launch, and it will let you unlock everything simply by meeting a certain number of blocks. This means you should be able to unlock a new set of tools once every 15 minutes or so, rather than once a day, and you should have the full suite of tools available to you within a couple of hours.

Super Mario Maker is now available, exclusively for the Wii U.
