Survival Horror Story: Catequesis is an interesting experiment. It starts off with protagonist Daniel going to meet his girlfriend’s dad but quickly spirals out of control thanks to rituals and other horrifying incidents. Now, despite being presented as a survival horror title, the game has been developed in 8-bit, overhead perspective.
Heck, it looks like all the Pokemon have been zombified in Pallet Town.
Mixed with 8-bit music and some overhead shooting, Survival Horror Story mixes 2D cutscenes with non-linear exploration as you confront demons from other worlds. Of course, because of its low graphic aspirations – though the game’s art style looks simply phenomenal – it will have a deeper story that mixes Japanese horror, Catholicism and even some Lovecraftian demons to provide for a truly demented experience.
Developed by Pakarico & Curved Cat, small group of indie developers, Survival Horror Story: Catequesis will be releasing on Android, Mac, PC and Linux this fall.
