The Nintendo Switch 2’s new Joy-Con controllers will bring several new features, from mouse functionality and a new C button with new social features, and more. Interestingly enough, however, the Switch 1’s Joy-Con controllers aren’t going to be incompatible with the upcoming next-gen console either.
On the official Switch 2 website, Nintendo has confirmed that players will be able to play Switch 2 titles with Switch 1 Joy-Con controllers, though you obviously won’t be able to use the aforementioned Switch 2-exclusive features. That also means games that are playable only with Switch 2-exclusive features – like Drag x Drive, which is built around mouse functionality – will be playable only with the Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Some other Switch 2 features will also be unusable with Switch 1 controllers. Nintendo explains, “You cannot exit sleep mode on Nintendo Switch 2 using the HOME Button on Nintendo Switch controllers such as Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
“On controllers without a C Button, you can start GameChat by selecting the option from the HOME Menu.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 releases with Mario Kart World as a launch title on June 5. It will be priced at $449.99.
