The developer is celebrating the milestone all year round and teases "a few things in store" for fans to look forward to.

PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta franchise turns fifteen this year, with the first game launching worldwide in January 2010. To celebrate the occasion, the developer has announced the “Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year” – a year-long celebration of the franchise.

Alongside freebies like phone wallpapers monthly, there’s a limited edition music box produced by Wayo Records. The latter plays the theme “Mysterious Destiny” by Masami Ueda and retails for €220.00. However, PlatinumGames’ tweet revealed that it has “a few things in store to celebrate this milestone”, with the official blog also teasing “various” planned announcements.

Whether there are any game-related announcements remains to be seen, so stay tuned for updates. The last title in the franchise was Bayonetta 3 in October 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. It features a new antagonist, Singularity, whom Bayonetta traverses multiple universes to fight. A new character, Viola, joins the fray with her own unique moves and abilities.

Check out our review of Bayonetta 3 here. We gave it an eight out of ten, praising the gameplay and spectacle while criticizing the technical issues and late story developments.

Shift Up's Kim Hyung Tae also cited Bayonetta, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as inspirations.

Of all the titles showcased during the recent State of Play, Shift Up’s Stellar Blade looked surprisingly solid. Furthermore, it’s out this Spring as a $70 title. Those who might have played NieR: Automata doubtless noted some similarities, either in the plot or some of the combat.

Speaking to Famitsu (translation via Gematsu), studio CEO and director Kim Hyung Tae confirmed that PlatinumGames’ acclaimed title was a “huge driving force” for the project.

“Yes. NieR: Automata was a huge driving force behind me working on this project. It made me realize once again that I wanted to make a game like Stellar Blade.” Other titles that served as inspirations include Bayonetta, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Tae is also a fan of God of War, which offered the “experience of a vast world without being completely open-world.” This may explain Stellar Blade’s semi-open world approach, especially as players venture into the desert to fight Naytibas, haywire robots, hostile human survivors, and mutated monstrosities.

Stellar Blade launches on April 26th, exclusively for PS5. Head here for more details on the story. A Deluxe Edition is also available to pre-order for $80 and includes some outfits for protagonist Eve and supporting characters Lily and Adam.

"But it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me," says Kamiya, who directed the original Bayonetta game.

The gap between Bayonetta 2 and 3 was a long one, but fans of PlatinumGames’ action franchise have nonetheless had plenty to dive into over the last year (including the spinoff Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon). But with series creator Hideki Kamiya – who directed the first game and supervised its sequels – having left PlatinumGames earlier this year, what does the future of the franchise look like?

Speaking in a recent video uploaded to his channel, in response to a question from a fan, Kamiya touched on the topic of the Bayonetta series, and said that though his vision for the 9-instalment saga is unlikely to now see the light of day, he expects the series to continue in his absence.

“I’ve talked about this in various interviews, that the Bayonetta series would consist of a total of nine episodes, and that I wanted to grow the franchise as the Bayonetta saga, but it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me,” Kamiya said. “It’s a shame. It’s not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suppose those who do will probably keep it going.”

Prior to his departure, last year, Kamiya spoke about his plans for the franchise, confirming that he had several sequels and spinoffs in mind that he intended to pitch to PlatinumGames. What direction the series will take in Kamiya’s absence remains to be seen, though series fans will be hoping that it’s not too long before we get some clarity on that front.

"I want to make a Bayonetta 4 and Bayonetta 5, and I intend on pitching them to the company," Kamiya says.

The Bayonetta franchise has seen its fair share of troubles, and if not for Nintendo’s intervention, there’s a very good chance that it would never have seen more than one game. Now, however, the action franchise is going strong, recently having seen the launch of Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch- and PlatinumGames may very well have plans to keep it going for a long time to come.

Speaking in an interview with IGN, PlatinumGames vice president Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta franchise, said that he intends to keep making Bayonetta games as long as he can, and that he has every intention of pitching more sequels to the studio.

“I personally can’t conceive the Bayonetta series ever ending,” Kamiya said. “I want to make a Bayonetta 4 and Bayonetta 5, and I intend on pitching them to the company. We often talk internally about how we could make nine of them. I want people who love the Bayonetta series to believe me when I say: ‘I’m not going to do anything that will betray the players.'”

Interestingly, Kamiya has also said that he can conceive of many possible Bayonetta spinoffs in the future. Recently, the developer and Nintendo announced one such action-adventure spinoff with Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, which is due out in March.

“I would like to make spin-offs. It’s an established part of the character Jeanne that she also works as a superhero named Cutie J. I’d even like to make a spin-off for that,” he said. “Keeping the Bayonetta series going is of the utmost importance to me, so I’m not fixated on what numbers are attached to a game’s title. I want to be able to depict the extensive world of Bayonetta that is inside my head.”

Bayonetta 3 is available now on Nintendo Switch. Read our review of the game through here.

Nintendo says pre-orders will only be available for a limited number of copies for the physical version, and only at select retailers.

Nintendo and PlatinumGames have finally confirmed the launch date for the long-awaited Bayonetta 3, while a special edition of the game has also been unveiled. To go alongside that, Nintendo is taking the opportunity to celebrate the series in other ways as well- more specifically with a special relaunch of the original Bayonetta.

PlatinumGames’ classic action title has been available on the Nintendo Switch since early 2018, but until now, only as a digital release. It’s been announced that on September 30, Nintendo will also launch a standalone physical version of the original Bayonetta, which will retail for $29.99. As per Nintendo, the game’s pre-orders will only entail a limited number of copies of the physical release, and will only be available at select retailers. More details on the same will be coming at a later date.

Bayonetta 3, meanwhile, will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on October 28.

Yusuke Hashimoto, whose previous credits also include Bayonetta 1 and various Resident Evil titles, is one of the game designers involved.

Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 was announced today in a brief teaser trailer which featured Ryu and series newcomer Luke. More news has been promised for the Summer but in the meantime, Bayonetta 2 and Star Fox Zero director Yusuke Hashimoto has confirmed his involvement. He’ll be working as one of the game designers on the project.

Hashimoto has a number of other big games to his credit, serving as a producer on Bayonetta and lead VFX for Resident Evil, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. It should be interesting to see what direction the fighter takes, especially following the departure of series producer Yoshinori Ono.

Though official details are wanting, there are plenty of rumors and reports to fall back on. Insider AestheticGamer (aka Dusk Golem) noted that it’s running on RE Engine, much like the publisher’s other recent titles. Previous rumors also indicated that the title would launch for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

For fans of over-the-top crazy action, particularly of the PlatinumGames variety, the Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle is out now on PS4 and Xbox One. As the name indicates, it packs Bayonetta and Vanquish in one awesome package. Check out the release trailer below.

One of the studio’s most celebrated titles, Bayonetta follows the titular Umbral Witch as she battles demons and angels alike to learn more about her past. The hack and slash, combo-heavy action calls Devil May Cry to mind but with lots of crazy QTEs and boss battles. On the other hand, Vanquish is a cover-based shooter where you can rocket slide and shoot foes in slow-mo. Despite its short length, it’s action is insanely fun.

The Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle costs $39.99 with both titles sporting updated visuals. They also support 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X so that’s a plus. A sleek steelbook, whose creation you can watch here, is also available with the physical edition.

It’s hard to believe, but roughly a decade ago, PlatinumGames was formed. The company came together primarily from several high profile employees leaving Capcom (from a production studio called Clover). PlatinumGames has continued on as one of the busiest work for hire studios out there. But soon, we can revisit two of the company’s initial wave of titles, and today we got a look at the physical double-pack release.

Bayonetta and Vanquish were recent confirmed to get remasters in February. While you will be able to buy both games digitally separately, you can get both together physically as well, with a special steelbook. Today, Sega released a video that shows the process of mixing the two franchises together in the fantastic artwork shown on the steelbook. Check it out below.

Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle will release for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 18th. The third entry in the Bayonetta series is being developed for the Switch right now, while Vanquish never received a sequel, since the initial release was considered a commercial flop.

Coming February 2020 to PS4 and Xbox One.

Over the last week, there have been multiple leaks for remasters of PlatinumGames’ excellent action titles Bayonetta and Vanquish on the occasion of both their 10th anniversaries, and recently, thanks to a leaked trailer, the leaks were all but confirmed. Now, Sega have officially announced Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Priced at $39.99, the bundle will, of course, include both games, remastered for current gen consoles. Meanwhile, on the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, both titles will run at 4K and 60 frames per second, which should be particularly exciting, giving the kind of games these two are. The physical release on both consoles will come with an embossed steelbook case as well.

The bundle launches on February 18, 2020, and is definitely something you should pick up if you’re a fan of action games. If nothing else, it’s a great chance to dive into the criminally underrated and often overlooked Vanquish- this, incidentally, is the first time the shooter is going to be available on current gen platforms.

Just announce it already.

While the early years of PlatinumGames weren’t financially successful, the studio did still produce some fantastic games. It was a time when spiritual successors of classic titles were produced, as well as original titles that were filled with creativity and action. Two such games were Bayonetta and Vanquish, and both are getting some makeovers for current systems.

The listings for both games were found earlier via the Microsoft Store. It now seems a teaser called the 10th Anniversary Trailer has leaked early via YouTube user Shih Jing Jhang. It’s unclear how and where it was obtained. While only the Xbox logo is visible at the end, odds are that it will come to both the PS4 and Xbox One. Take a look below.

Both games are fantastic action titles well worth revisiting, and Bayonetta at last got a second chance thanks to Nintendo. The Microsoft listing for the remasters are slated for February 2020. Now the wait for the official announcement begins.
