The rumoured Resident Evil Zero remake is being made by K2 and M-Two, it's been claimed.

Capcom made it abundantly clear last year that it intended to keep making more Resident Evil remakes, and though many would have imagined that Resident Evil 5 and another remake of Resident Evil 1 were the likeliest to take the stage next, prominent leaker Dusk Golem has claimed that neither of those is in development, and that Capcom is currently instead working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.

In a follow-up tweet, the leaker also provided further details on the development of both titles. As per the leaker, Resident Evil Zero’s remake is being primarily development by external teams in the form of K2 and M-Two. Notably, both studios together led development on 2020’s Resident Evil 3 remake as well as the Resident Evil 4 remake’s Separate Ways expansion. They also provided development support on the RE4 remake’s base game.

Meanwhile, the leaker further goes on to claim that the Code Veronica remake is being developed internally by Capcom Dev 1, by the same team and “a lot of the same people” that developed the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.

How far along these projects are in development and which one of them will be ready to release firs remains to be seen.

Dusk Golem has also claimed that Resident Evil 9 has been delayed into late 2025 at the earliest, and that it won’t be revealed this summer. Read more on that through here.

Reports say that development is "partially" rebooted but is there reason to worry?

Resident Evil Village garnered headlines for the past week with Capcom announcing a release date, confirming a release for the Xbox One and PS4 versions, and even unveiling yet another multiplayer mode that hardcore fans don’t want. However, even with all the big announcements made, something felt conspicuously absent. Given that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, one had to wonder – Where was the Resident Evil 4 Remake?

To be clear, Capcom has never formally announced that said remake is in development. It didn’t tease an appearance for the showcase and hasn’t even hinted at its existence. If things had remained quiet, we would have assumed that development is still on-going. The project’s existence is hardly a secret, especially since the Capcom data leak confirmed it’s in the works, but we could still pretend.

However, a report from VideoGamesChronicle revealed that the Resident Evil 4 Remake has been rebooted. Numerous sources revealed to the site that M-Two, which developed Resident Evil 3 Remake, had its role reduced following a project review last year. The reason for this is apparently due to disagreements with how the project should proceed. M-Two wanted a more faithful remake, especially since one of the major complaints for Resident Evil 3 Remake is how it didn’t have certain memorable moments from the classic. On the other hand is Capcom, which is looking for a more unique experience that doesn’t closely follow the original, like Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Keep in mind that this isn’t exactly new information. Prominent leaker AestheticGamer reported Capcom’s interest in expanding on the original game back in June 2020. The company was looking to greatly expand on the original game’s story, including possibly offering more information on Dr. Salvador, the infamous Chainsaw Man. While the gameplay was noted to be seeing some changes, these would have placed it closer in line to the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, one interesting bit that AestheticGamer added was that a lot could still change before launch.

This indicates two things – One, the Resident Evil 4 Remake was indeed in the works since 2018, as rumors have reported, but on a smaller scale. Given that Capcom was also busy working on the other remakes, this makes some degree of sense. Two, development would have ramped up following M-Two’s completion of Resident Evil 3 Remake, which is around the same time that rumors of it being involved in a larger remake project began to swell. Even reports from last year indicated that Resident Evil 4 Remake would be launching in 2022. If you look at the time-frame for Resident Evil 2 Remake – which was confirmed to be in development in 2015 and subsequently released in 2019 – then a four to five year cycle doesn’t sound too strange, especially for what’s meant to be a “larger” remake.

The question now, then, is why did Capcom reboot the project? If it’s indeed looking to make wholesale changes, then to what end? One could argue that a remake that’s too similar to the original couldn’t be marketed on its own appeal. Meanwhile, M-Two’s approach seems to indicate that it wants to stick to a more faithful title to appease fans rather than thinking outside the box. It’s possible that Capcom just really loves how the Resident Evil 2 Remake turned out in terms of gameplay. It also could like the slower-paced survival horror approach where ammo must be carefully managed than latter additions in the franchise, like Resident Evil 4 and 5. Of course, with over 7.2 million copies sold, there’s no faulting the company for wanting subsequent remakes to take that same approach.

If M-Two insisted on sticking to Resident Evil 4’s original formula as much as possible, then it wold have caused friction with Capcom. Whether the publisher having games that follow Resident Evil 2 Remake is a good sign or not, especially when it could mean that content from the classics is not included, is a question for the creatives in charge. Even if Resident Evil 3 Remake caught criticism for the same, the fact that it sold 3.6 million in less than a year is a big deal.

Of course, there’s also the issue as to why Capcom feels so comfortable giving the game another year for development. The reasons for this are numerous – Resident Evil 4 is one of the company’s best-selling titles of all-time, raking in tons of awards and being credited for its innovations in the horror and third person shooter space. To say that Capcom wants the remake to do it justice – and naturally outsell it by a healthy margin – would be an understatement.

But there’s also the fact that the company isn’t sweating its current roster of releases. Resident Evil Village has had an incredibly good reception and seems on track to sell exceptionally well (especially since it’s launching for current and previous-gen platforms). The company can also expect DLC to fetch additional revenue in the long-term like Not a Hero and The End of Zoe did for Resident Evil 7, even if it’s not a crazy amount. There’s also the matter of Resident Evil Outrage, another title mentioned in the infamous Capcom leak that’s rumored to be Resident Evil Revelations 3 in all but name and stars Rebecca Chambers.

The game is rumored to launch on Nintendo Switch and other platforms as well. With the current demand for Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch (which is also rumored to be coming to PC later), it’s expected that Outrage will also perform spectacularly, both at launch and when it releases for other consoles. All in all, Capcom is set with its Resident Evil release schedule for the next two years and that’s not even accounting for other titles it could announce.

There’s always going to be concern over a title’s development, especially one that’s reportedly been in the works for as long as Resident Evil 4 Remake and with so many expectations riding on it. At this point, Capcom’s approach of not discussing the game is working out very well. It already has major releases which are receiving plenty of focus, and that are more or less guaranteed to deliver outstanding returns.

It doesn’t need to confirm the existence of a title which it doesn’t feel is anywhere near ready to be shown. Because once you reveal, for example, that a game like Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3 is in development, the hype train will be rolling even if years go by without any major announcements or new details.

For now, it’s best to wait until the game is in a complete enough state before announcing it. It’s worked well enough for Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Rise which are releasing in the coming months. We’ll just have to wait and see if this works out for Resident Evil 4 Remake when all is said and done.

A new report says Capcom's main Division 1 has taken the reigns.

Over the last two years, Capcom has seen successfully remaking some of their classic Resident Evil titles to much success, especially in the case of Resident Evil 2. So it was somewhat not entirely surprising (though a tad surprising) when reports came out that Capcom was going ahead with a remake of the beloved Resident Evil 4. The game is one of the most influential and acclaimed titles of all time, leading to much speculation about what exactly Capcom was going to do here. Well, it seems as if there’s been at least some rearranging, as well as an internal delay.

VGC, who were the first to report on the remake, have now said that the remake’s development has been overhauled and partially rebooted. Capcom’s internal Division 1, which traditionally does the mainline Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games, will take the reigns. The original lead development team, M-Two, was originally doing the bulk of development.

According to the report, it came due to disagreements between Capcom and M-Two about the direction of the remake. Though Resident Evil 3 was overall successful and met studio expectations, the lukewarm reception to it led M-Two to pushing for a more 1:1 remake for their next project, whereas Capcom wanted bigger changes. This has led to their role being significantly reduced and an internal delay from a planned 2022 release to 2023.

Of course, as always with these types of reports, one has to take it all with a grain of salt. However, due to the recent massive Capcom data leak, we know a Resident Evil 4 remake of some kind is definitely in the works. If this is accurate, it sounds like Capcom has some pretty radical changes in mind for the remake, but it also sounds like it’ll be a good while before we see whatever that looks like.

It’s been known for a while now that the upcoming Resident Evil 3 hasn’t been developed in-house at Capcom, and was instead worked on by M-Two, an external studio backed financially by Capcom and led up by former Capcom and Platinum man Tatsuya Minami. But it seems Resident Evil 3 is not the only game the two are working on together.

VGC recently published a new report talking about the studio’s involvement with the newest survival horror remake, and toward the end of the remake, dropped an interesting little tidbit. Apparently, M-Two are also the lead developers on a “larger remake project for Capcom.” This falls in line with another recent report, which said that M-Two are working on another Resident Evil game that is currently scheduled for 2022.

A Resident Evil project that is going to be a larger remake than the upcoming Resident Evil 3 narrows down the prospects quite a bit. While the obvious guess here would be Resident Evil: Code – Veronica, if recent reports are to be believed, that game is nowhere close to being in development. The next guess would be Resident Evil 4– but that’s just speculation for now.

Resident Evil 3 is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3. Our review for the game recently went live, in which we called it “a solid enough game, but not nearly as impressive as other recent Resident Evil titles, and not nearly as good as it could and should have been.” You can read our full review through here.

The independent studio is reportedly collaborating with Capcom on another RE after the upcoming RE3.

Capcom have to be commended for how resoundingly successful they’ve been in bringing Resident Evil back to top form after a terrible slump, and how well they’ve been managing the series since they’ve done so. And it looks like they want to keep this momentum going- the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake will be the third mainline RE game in four years, and rumours and leaks have suggested that they’re going to keep that pace going.

Prominent RE and Capcom leaker Dusk Golem recently took to Twitter to drop some more teases about the future of the series (and not the first time over these past few weeks, either), and some interesting stuff has potentially come to light. In one among a series of tweets, they confirmed that a new Resident Evil game due out after a couple years from now will be developed by the indie Capcom-backed studio M-Two. M-Two, in case you’re unaware, is also the lead developer on the upcoming Resident Evil 3.

It’ll be interesting to see – if this turns out to be accurate – what this game will end up being. There is some clarity about the game to be released after RE3, but since this allegedly comes after even that one, things become a little foggier. As for the 2021 RE title (which has brought up time and time again even in the absence of an official announcement), reports have suggested that it’ll be neither Resident Evil 8, nor a remake of Code Veronica. This alleged M-Two-developed 2022 game, however, things are a little less sure.

Meanwhile, in another tweet, Dusk Golem also re-iterated that Capcom wants to keep the annual release schedule of Resident Evil going, with one game coming out in 2021, and another in 2022- though there “may or may not be a year delay in 2023.”

As always, remember to take this with a grain of salt until we hear something from official channels, even if Dusk Golem’s track record – especially when it comes to Resident Evil – has been very impressive in the past.

As for the immediate future, Resident Evil 3 is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3, with a demo scheduled to come out before that.

right now M-Two is the lead on another Resident Evil game, not the next one that releases but the one after that, but I promised I wouldn't say too much on that title for now.

I honestly didn't tease much about RE3 publicly outside of this, some people take my comments on it to

So the "Annual Resident Evil" thing I talked about is going to be true for a while longer. There is a Resident Evil game to launch in 2021, and a Resident Evil game set to launch in 2022. There may or may not be a year delay in 2023, hard to say right now.

Kiyohiko Sakata also has connections to the original PS1 titles.

We’re just a little over a month away from the remake of Resident Evil 3. Earlier today we got a blow out of information about the game, including a ton of gameplay footage and screenshots which you can read about through here. We also now know the game’s Director, and he’s got quite the pedigree.

According to an interview with Dengeki, the remake is being led by Kiyohiko Sakata. Sakata actually has his own studio, Red Works, but will still be heading the production. He is a veteran of both Capcom, as well as PlatinumGames, so he’s got quite the resume. Not only that, he worked as a programmer for the first four Resident Evil titles, including Lead Coder for RE4. Very fitting that someone with such a legacy connection is heading a revival of an old school title.

Resident Evil 3 will release on April 3rd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo is said to also be coming soon, so keep your eyes open.

Former Capcom and Platinum man Tatsuya Minami is reportedly in charge of a new Capcom-backed studio.

After multiple leaks over the past couple of weeks, Capcom recently officially announced a remake of Resident Evil 3. And though it was hard to miss, especially given how packed the entire announcement trailer was, the very end of the trailer displayed a logo for an unknown studio names M-Two.

If you’re wondering what M-Two is and what role it’s playing in the remake’s development, a recent report by VGC might have some answers for you. As per the report, M-Two is a newly formed studio, backed by Capcom, that is headed up by Tatsuya Minami, who was a Capcom veteran of many years before he came the CEO of PlatinumGames, prior to departing from the former as well in 2016.

At Capcom, Minami was involved in the development of several major releases, including the likes of multiple Resident Evil, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter titles. VGC’s report also claims that several other Capcom and Platinum staff are also working with Minami at M-Two, and that the studio, which has been active for around a year, is helping out with the development of Resident Evil 3.

Another interesting tidbit mentioned in the report claims that M-Two is named so because Minami had originally approached former Capcom man and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami to co-found the studio with him. Hence, the two Ms- Minami and Mikami. Though Mikami chose to remain at Tango Gameworks under Bethesda, the name for the new studio seemed to have stuck.

Resident Evil 3 is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3, 2020. Check out more details and additional gameplay footage from the survival horror title through here. You can also find details on its limited collector’s edition through here.
