Other games coming to the subscription service are Neva, Season: A Letter tot he Future, and Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition.

Shortly after its recent State of Play showcase, Sony has revealed updates to its PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for the month of February. As part of this, a number of AAA titles will be available through the subscription service. Headlining the offerings this month will be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition for PS5. These new additions will be available starting on February 17th.

PS4 offerings will also see expansion, with the addition of Monster Hunter Stories (PS4) and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin (PS4) just a month before the release of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. Other games coming to the subscription service are racing game Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown (PS5), narrative action adventure games Neva (PS5) and Season: A Letter to the Future (PS4, PS5), indie title Venba (PS5), and sports game Rugby 25 (PS4, PS5). These games will be available for PlayStation Extra and Premium tier subscribers. The PlayStation Classics catalog will see the addition of Disney Pixar Wall-E (PS4, PS5), which was originally released on PS2 in 2008.

Along with this, Sony has also confirmed new additions to its PlayStation Plus Classics catalog for next month. The line-up, only available to Premium tier subscribers, includes PSP fighting game Tekken Dark Resurrection, and PlayStation classic rail shooter Time Crisis, as caught by Gematsu.

This announcement comes just a few days after rumors first popped up of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming to the subscription service. The 2023 action-adventure title revolves around Peter Parker and Miles Morales taking on a host of new foes from Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery. A key element of the story is the presence of the Symbiote.

While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming to the service makes sense given its 2023 release date, Monster Hunter Stories and its sequel coming to PlayStation Plus is especially interesting since the third game in the turn-based RPG franchise is slated for release on March 13th.

While the Stories series has largely focused on telling their own standalone stories (no pun intended), they tend to have a throughline in the form of their combat systems that blend the traditional Monster Hunter gameplay loop with turn-based action with an emphasis on befriending monsters as well as fighting them.

For those looking to check out Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection before release, a demo was released earlier this month offering some early-game sections. Capcom has also confirmed that players will be able to carry over their progress into the full game when it finally comes out.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection also got a trailer earlier this week, offering an overview of the story and the history of the Riders. The trailer features narration by Elizabeth Rose Bloodblame of Hololive English, and focuses quite a bit on the bonds between Riders and their Monsties (Monster Besties). Along with the wide roster of monsters that the series is known for, Stories 3 will also feature newer ones from Monster Hunter Wilds, like Rey Dau and Arkveld. Among the returning monsters, Monster Hunters 2‘s Yama Tsukami has also been confirmed for the game.

Available for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, the first two titles in Capcom's long-running monster-raising series are finally coming to Xbox.

While Capcom’s next title in the Monster Hunter Stories series is due next year, those on Xbox One can experience the originals this Fall. Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will be coming to the console on November 14th, as announced on the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2025 Broadcast.

Currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4, the first game introduces players to the concept of Riders and Monsties. By raising and developing classic series’ monsters, players can engage in turn-based battles. Of course, the sequel goes far beyond this with much deeper breeding mechanics, a more epic story and improved visuals.

Check out our reviews for both titles and stay tuned for more details. As for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, it’s out on March 13th, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The latest trailer delves more into the Crystal Encroachment afflicting the world and the various characters that rise to stop it.

The turn-based RPG is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4, having launched for the latter as recently as last week.

The Monster Hunter Stories games obviously never sell quite as much as the Monster Hunter series’ mainline titles do, but they do sell well enough. Capcom has, in fact, provided updated sales numbers for one of them to illustrate that very point.

The company has announced that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has now surpassed 2 million units sold worldwide across all platforms since its release in 2021. That’s up from 1.5 million units in 2022. Last week, the game was also ported over to PS4, while on the same day, Capcom also released a remaster of its predecessor for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In our review of Monster Hunter Stories 2 upon its original 2021 release, we awarded it a score of 8/10, saying, “Fans and newcomers to the series, genre, or spin-off sub-series alike will find a lot to enjoy in Monster Hunter Stories 2, which, despite a few stumbles, presents one of the stronger RPG offerings on the Switch.” Read the full review through here. You can also read our review of the aforementioned PS4 port through here.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC. Whether the company intends to make another Stories game down the line remains to be seen, but the subseries of turn-based RPGs has certainly been successful enough from critical and commercial viewpoints to warrant at least another game, one would think- or hope, at least.

A charming, colourful adventure, now finally available on PlayStation.

As time has gone on, Monster Hunter has turned into an absolute juggernaut for Capcom. The series had always been massively successful in Japan, but with Monster Hunter World, it broke out and saw mainstream success worldwide, following which the IP has quickly become one of Capcom’s biggest sellers, if not even the biggest, period. And though the mainline entries have obviously been primarily responsible for that, the series has also earned a bit of love for its turn-based Monster Hunter Stories spinoffs.

After seeing a fair bit of success with the first Monster Hunter Stories game in 2016 on the 3DS, Capcom followed up on it with a sequel in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch and PC, which, by and large, was considered to be a solid improvement over what had already been a solid first outing for the turn-based subseries. Now, three years on from is original release, coinciding with a remastered release of the first game, Capcom has also launched a straight port of Monster Hunter Stories 2 for the PS4- and though it’s obviously not the next big Monster Hunter game that many of us are so keenly waiting for (no, that comes next year), it’s still a great opportunity for PlayStation owners to jump into what’s a genuinely well-made and enjoyable traditional turn-based JRPG.

"This is a great opportunity for PlayStation owners to jump into what’s a genuinely well-made and enjoyable traditional turn-based JRPG."

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is technically a direct sequel to the first game, but though some narrative elements and characters are shared between the two games, the sequel can easily be played as essentially a standalone game. You play as a silent, rookie Rider, who, along with your bonded Monsties (which is what Riders call Monsters) and fellow Riders that you meet and befriend, embarks on a quest to unravel the mysteries of strange lights in the sky and mass disappearances of Rathalos.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 definitely puts more of an emphasis on story than the series’ mainline outings have ever done, and even if it’s not a narrative masterpiece by any means – gameplay is still the primary focus here – the story does a surprising job of keeping you invested. The writing and voice over performances generally tend to be solid across the board, even if they can be a bit rough every now and then, and though the story is largely predictable and pretty by-the-numbers, it does have its fair share of moments of genuine emotion.

As I mentioned, however, the star attraction is still the gameplay- which, of course, is very different from your usual Monster Hunter fare. Like its predecessor, instead of the mainline series’ action-packed real-time battles, Monster Hunter Stories 2 throws players into turn-based affairs, where you send out the Monsties that you have managed to bond with and train in battle alongside you. On paper, it sounds similar to Pokemon, but from you also fighting in battles alongside Monsties to the core mechanics of the fights themselves, it sets itself apart in some ways.

At the combat’s heart is a rock-paper-scizzors system that you’ll be familiar with if you’ve played the first game. Each turn, you, your Monstie, and your enemies can unleash either a Power attack, a Speed attack, or a Technical attack, with each variety being stronger to one and weaker to the other. Frequently, you’ll go head-to-head against an enemy when the two of you are mutually targeting each other, at which point the rock-paper-scizzors system determines which one of you will emerge victorious and get to attack to deal higher damage.

"It starts out a bit too simplistic and straightforward, but Monster Hunter Stories 2’s battle system quickly adds layer upon later to turn into a genuine treat."

In addition to that system, the game also throws in several wrinkles to keep things interesting, from monsters entering different states where they can switch up their attacks to larger monsters having parts that you can break off for advantages in battle and better rewards at the end of the fight, to the Kinship skills that you can unleash in conjunction with your Monsties once you have your Kinship gauge filled up enough. Additionally, there’s also six different weapon types to use, with each of them dealing different types of damage that can be less or more effective against certain monsters, monster parts, and what have you. It starts out a bit too simplistic and straightforward, but Monster Hunter Stories 2’s battle system quickly adds layer upon later to turn into a genuine treat. It’s a bit of a bummer that overworld battles can sometimes drag on as long as they can (even when you’re fast-forwarding through them), which is never fun in a fairly long JRPG, which is exactly what Monster Hunter Stories 2 is.

Outside of battles, things are much more rote. The bulk of your time will be exploring the game’s several large maps and hub locations, and while that’s fun to do on account of their solid design and how visually pleasing and vibrant they are to look at, there are other factors that hold the experience back in some ways. For starters, movement in general feels a bit too stiff. Whether it’s the camera controls not being smooth enough or the movement animations feeling a bit too stilted, the general act of going from place to place never quite feels as tight as you would want in a Monster Hunter game.

There’s also the fact that exploration often tends to get repetitive. You’ll be spending a lot of your time in Monster Hunter Stories 2 exploring dens, which is where you find Monstie eggs (which, in turn, is how you add Monsties to your party), but the design of these dungeons is almost always too simplistic, while they all also often tend to look a bit too similar to each other. While it’s always exciting to find rare dens and potentially get your hands on rarer and better Monstie eggs, ultimately, the activity does become repetitive.

Then there are the subquests, which take on the form of the kind of rote, by-the-numbers side quests that we expect to see in RPGs so often. From collecting a certain number of a certain item to going out and defeating a certain type of monster a certain number of times, Monster Hunter Stories 2 throws a great deal of side quests at you that, thanks to their bland and inoffensive design, are hard to remember even minutes after you’re done with them. Some subquests can be genuinely fun, but by and large, there aren’t a lot of gems to find on this front.

"Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a wonderful take on a beloved universe that feels meaningfully different from the games that spawned it, while still feeling like it belongs in that larger series."

On a technical front, Monster Hunter Stories 2 is quite a pretty game- as it always has been. The PS4 version is virtually indistinguishable from its Nintendo Switch and PC counterparts. There’s some texture pop in and frame rate drops here and there, but this game’s strength always lay with its art style, which still looks gorgeous. A big part of the fun of exploring the game’s maps is getting to look at its gorgeous, colourful, and vibrant environments, while there’s also plenty to be impressed by on an audio-visual level when you’re talking about the cutscenes, which all boast legitimately excellent animations and music.

Ultimately, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a solid experience. It’s a wonderful take on a beloved universe that feels meaningfully different from the games that spawned it, while still feeling like it belongs in that larger series. From the gorgeous art style to the endearing and heartwarming story to the mechanically deep and engaging battles and customization mechanics, Monster Hunter Stories 2 is a solid JRPG that fans of the genre should definitely check out.

The PlayStation 4 version of this game was reviewed on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.

Recent years have seen Capcom turning Monster Hunter into one of its biggest and most successful properties, and though the series’ mainline games have been primarily responsible for that, its spinoffs have carved out their own niches as well. The Monster Hunter Stories games in particular have their fair share of fans, and will soon be opening the gates for more new players to jump in with an upcoming remastered release of the first game on Switch, PS4, and PC, and a re-release of the second game on PS4. Ahead of those releases, here, we’re going to give you the lowdown on what exactly you should expect from both Monster Hunter Stories games.

WHAT ARE THE STORIES GAMES?

Rather than the action-oriented and loot-driven gameplay of the mainline titles, the Monster Hunter Stories games instead take the form of much more traditional single-player turn-based RPGs. Instead of hunters, in the Stories games, players play as Riders, who tame and befriend monsters before then using them in battles against other Riders. Yep, the Monster Hunter Stories games are essentially Capcom’s take on the Pokemon games. Additionally, unlike the mainline games, the Stories titles are also much more story-driven.

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 1 STORY DETAILS

Monster Hunter Stories focuses on the journey of the player-named protagonist and an infant Rathalos that they bond with as Rider. Together with other allies and companions, like fellow Riders from your village and Navirou the felyne, you’ll set out on a journey where your primary concern will be to figure out how to deal with the Black Blight, a sickness that is spreading over the entire land.

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 1 CHARACTER DETAILS

Players will meet a number of key characters throughout their time in Monster Hunter Stories 1. For starters, there’s the aforementioned Navirou, a mysterious, donut-loving, strange-looking felyne that accompanies you throughout your journey. Then there are Lilia and Cheval, two of your closest childhood friends, Avinia, a Rider from another village who travels in the company of a Barioth named Frostfang, and Reverto, a veteran hunter.

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 2 STORY DETAILS

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin brings over the vast majority of its predecessor’s gameplay ideas, but it takes us to an entirely new location, focusing on a new cast of characters, and telling its own (mostly) separate story. In Monster Hunter Stories 2, players play as a young Rider who sets out on a journey to unravel the mystery of why Rathalos have been vanishing all over the world. Many of the first game’s core characters also return, including the likes of Navirou, Lilia, Avinia, and Reverto.

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 2 CHARACTER DETAILS

There are, of course, plenty of new character introductions in Monster Hunter Stories 2 as well. One of the more prominent ones is Razewing Ratha, the Rathalos that you bind with as Rider. Another key character is Ena, a Wyverian girl who once knew your grandfather, legendary Rider Red, before his death, while you’ll also be joined by new allies in the form of Kayna and Alwin, fellow Riders who travel with their bonded Monsties- a Velocidrome named Avmar and a Legiana named Shaulk respectively.

TURN-BASED BATTLES

One of the biggest ways the Monster Hunter Stories games differ from the series’ mainline entries is their combat, which is turn-based here and takes cues from the Pokemon series (as it does in other ways). You, your Monstie, and your enemies all get a turn to attack, with combat primarily revolving around a rock-paper-scizzors-style three-way system of strengths and weaknesses. Each attack can be one of three types- Power (which is stronger than Technical), Technical (which is stronger than Speed), and Speed (which is stronger than Power). When going head-to-head against an enemy, the matchups of your attack types will determine who gets to deal damage. Monstie and Rider can also combine to unleash Double Attacks, which also revolves around attack types.

COLLECTING AND TRAINING MONSTERS

Monster Hunter games primarily task players with hunting down and slaughtering monsters to then use their body parts to craft increasingly more powerful gear, but in the Stories games, your goal is to collect, befriend, and train the monsters (or Monsties, as they’re known to Riders) that you run into. Across both games, you’ll be crossing paths with a number of monsters that series fans will be very familiar with, including the likes of Rathalos, Barioth, Tigrex, Diablos, Nargacuga, Zamtrios, Zinogre, Mizutsune, Teostra, Bazelgeuse, Anjanath, Kulu-Ya-Ku, and many, many others.

BONDS AND KINSHIP SKILLS

As the bond between you and your Monsties grows in Monster Hunter Stories, you’ll gain access to Kinship Skills, which are special, high-powered moves that you can unleash in combat while riding atop your Monstie. Different Monsties will be able to use different Kinship Skills, from Rathalos’ Sky-High Dive, which sees you pummeling your enemy with an explosive, high-speed dive from the sky that incinerates everything in your path, to Tigrex’s Rock Smash, which sees you leaping down from the top of a cliff and crashing into the ground with monstrous force.

WEAPONS

Though weapons and gear aren’t quite as crucial to the core gameplay loop in the Stories games as they are in their mainline counterparts, they do obviously still have an important role to play. In fact, the many weapons and weapon types you’ll be using in Stories 1 and 2 will be quite familiar to you, if you have prior experience with the Monster Hunter stories. The likes of great swords, hammers, hunting horns, and gunlances (among others) can be used in combat, and each comes with their own unique attributes, strengths, and weaknesses.

MONSTIE GENES

Another area where the Monster Hunter Stories games are heavily inspired by Pokemon are how they give each Monstie you encounter their own unique attributes through their own set of genes, so that no two Monsties that you find are ever the exact same. Using the Rite of Channeling, players can transfer genes from one Monstie to another in order to awaken new abilities, allowing you to strengthen your Monsties with a surprising amount of finer control. This, of course, will be on top of earning experience and leveling up through battles, side quests, quests, and more.

NEW VO IN STORIES 1

Monster Hunter Stories 1’s upcoming remaster is bringing with it a number of enhancements, and beyond improved visuals, perhaps the most prominent of them is the addition of full voice acting. Unlike the original game, Monster Hunter Stories’ upcoming remaster will feature both English and Japanese vice tracks for the story’s core cast of characters.

MUSEUM MODE IN STORIES 1

Another key addition in the upcoming Monster Hunter Stories remaster for fans to look forward to is the Museum mode, where you can check out over 200 pieces of previously unreleased artwork, as well as the game’s music. On top of that, you’ll also find plenty of behind-the-scenes insights and comments provided by the game’s development team, offering a deeper look into the game’s setting and its development.

PREVIOUS UPDATES INCLUDED WITH STORIES 1

In the aftermath of Monster Hunter Stories’ original release back in 2016, Capcom released a decent chunk of new content for the game through post-launch updates, including new Monsties, the Tower of Illusion post-game activity, and more. Capcom has confirmed that all of those updates will be included in the upcoming remaster out the gate.

PRICING

As good as they are, the Monster Hunter Stories games are decidedly not mainline big-budget titles, and their pricing will reflect that with their upcoming releases, as well as the fact that they’re both older games now. Monster Hunter Stories, which will launch for PS4, Switch, and PC, will be available for $29.99, while Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which is coming to PS4, is going to cost $39.99. A Deluxe Edition will also be available for $49.99.

COLLECTION

Those who haven’t played either of the two Monster Hunter Stories titles will have the opportunity to pick up both of them as a single package. On June 14, Capcom will also release a Collection that will include both games, retailing for $59.99. A Deluxe version of the collection will also be available for $69.99.

It's not the busiest month for game releases, but June has some long-awaited heavy hitters that should keep their fans busy.

June is the officially designated showcase month for the gaming industry, and this month is no different. As rumors circulate, it should be a packed week of big announcements and exclusive reveals from Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, 2K Games, Bandai Namco and many more. Though not quite as hefty in terms of releases, there are some pretty noteworthy titles to look forward to, whether it’s the conclusion of not one but two sagas, some Monster Hunter titles and Star Wars (the non-EA kind). Here are 12 big games coming in June 2024.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Say what you will about the Destiny franchise, but with all the ups and downs, shifting trends, studio problems and controversies, it’s still the top looter shooter. With The Final Shape, Bungie looks to conclude the near-decade-long Light and Darkness saga with new Light-based subclasses, Prismatic (combining many abilities into one subclass), a linear campaign and a hopefully memorable raid. It’s a tall order, and between all of the changes to Exotics, ability changes, new Exotics (including new class items) overhauling bounties in favor of the Pathfinder system and more, The Final Shape could be a memorable end leading to a promising beginning when it launches on June 4th. It will be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.

Monster Hunter Stories

Limited to Nintendo 3DS, iOS and Android for years, the first Monster Hunter Stories is finally coming to modern-ish platforms on June 14th. Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC players can dive into a world where humans and monsters coexist, working together as Rider and Monstie to overcome challenges. Combat is turn-based with three attack types, each overcoming the typical triangular fashion. The remaster sports all the title updates, full voice-acting, additional languages, improved character models, textures and lighting in HD, and even a Museum Mode.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Once PS4 players are done enjoying the original, there’s Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, launching on the same day. Players take ownership of the mysterious Razewing Ratha, an allegedly ruinous Rathalos. Journeying together and teaming up with other Riders, they seek to rid the world of raging monsters. With a more refined presentation, recognizable armor and weapons from the series, and extensive ways to cultivate and customize Monsties, Wings of Ruin promises a fun turn-based experience. It also benefits from all of the updates released to date, including a co-op quest against Fatalis.

Still Wakes the Deep

Dear Esther and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs developer The Chinese Room is back with its latest survival horror, set on a drilling platform in 1975. The premise sees Caz McLeary struggling to survive against some unknown monster while navigating the platform’s various mechanical failures. That means navigating ruined walkways, traversing claustrophobic water-filled rooms, and much more. With The Thing, Suspiria and even the Southern Reach Trilogy as inspirations, Still Wakes the Deep promises a deeply personal and nerve-wracking horror experience when it launches on June 18th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Perhaps the biggest release of the month, Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and only paid expansion for Elden Ring, launching on June 21st for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. It sees players venturing to the Land of Shadow to pursue Miquella, discovering hidden truths (including an untold war) about the place and battling with new threats like Messmer the Impaler. With over ten new boss fights, multiple new weapon types, skills and armor, and a new region that’s larger than Limgrave with a “denser and richer level design”, it’s FromSoftware’s biggest expansion to date. Will it close the story on a high note? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Before there was the brilliance of Luigi’s Mansion 3, Dark Moon was the series’ peak. Fortunately, it’s coming to Nintendo Switch on June 27th as Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. Featuring improved visuals in HD, Luigi must collect pieces of the Dark Moon to save Mario once more, utilizing the Poltergust 5000 to solve puzzles in more complex haunted mansions. You can also hop into the ScareScraper with up to three other players to tackle fresh challenges locally or online. Whether you’re reliving the masterpiece or playing for the first time, it should be another worthwhile addition to the Switch’s library.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble

Speaking of returns, Super Monkey Ball gets a new title on June 25th on Nintendo Switch, courtesy of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble features AiAi, MeeMee and the rest of the crew, including newcomer Palette, as they seek the Legendary Banana in Adventure Mode. Multiplayer supports up to 16 players online (or two locally), with modes like Race, Banana Hunt, Goal Rush and more. It even supports bots and offers more than 300 items to customize characters with.

Star Wars: Hunters

First announced in February 2021, Zynga’s Star Wars: Hunters actually soft-launched in late 2021 for mobiles. Multiple delays later, it’s finally getting a release on June 4th, enabling Nintendo Switch players to join the fray. As a free-to-play competitive shooter, players can choose from an array of bounty hunters divided into Tank, Support and Damage roles, with maps on Endor, and four unique modes. Whether it can survive as a hero shooter in this day and age remains to be seen, but it looks decent.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road

After bragging about offering the “equivalent of more than ten single-player games” with The Elder Scrolls Online, ZeniMax Online Studios is preparing for its next big expansion. Gold Road sees players venturing to the West Weald from Oblivion with locations like Skingrad, the Dawnwood and the Colovian Highlands to explore. Players can modify skills with the new Scribing system, which should help when embarking into new dungeons and the latest trial. The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road is out on June 3rd for PC, with the console versions launching on June 18th.

A Twisted Path to Renown

You’ve seen modern combat PvEvP extraction shooters, but Game-Labs’ A Twisted Path to Renown puts a Wild West spin on things. Entering early access on June 6th for PC, it sees players exploring the United States in 1899 with revolvers, double-barrel shotguns and even bows. Battle all kinds of threats, including hostile wildlife, while garnering reputation among vendors, earning better gear, and even engaging in some farming and mining. With realistic weapons and trading available at launch, it may very well be the freshest take on the genre yet.

ASKA

Whether you’re already done with Valheim’s new Ashlands update or just in the mood for a fresh survival crafting title, there’s Thunderful’s ASKA. Launching on June 20th for PC via Steam Early Access, the title allows up to four players to strike out as Vikings, building up their tribe, assigning jobs to villagers, customizing the layout and setting up defenses. They can also venture into the procedurally generated world with its dynamic weather system and discover various landmarks and resources. Launching in 2025, with two major updates forthcoming, ASKA may be worth checking out.

Kingdom Hearts Series (Steam)

Just when it seemed condemned to the Epic Games Store for life, the Kingdom Hearts series is finally coming to Steam on June 13th. Three titles will be available, though at least two are collections of individual games. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX contains the Final Mix versions of Kingdom Hearts 1, 2 and Birth by Sleep, Re:Chain of Memories and all the cutscenes (plus some new ones) from 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.

These are in high-definition and offer a substantial amount for first-time PC players. Kingdom HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue contains a remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, a “film” of sorts based on Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover and Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage, a side story.

It all leads to Kingdom Hearts 3, the conclusion to the Dark Seeker saga, and Re Mind, with multiple new challenges and additional story content. Memory of Melody isn’t arriving, which is a bummer, but these three releases still offer the definitive Kingdom Hearts experience.

Capcom’s remaster of Monster Hunter Stories is out in June, but PS4 players get a special surprise on the same day – the release of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Available now for PC and Nintendo Switch, it’s out on June 14th for PS4. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The story focuses on the player character, who seeks to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps to become a Rider. However, he encounters Ena, a Wyverian with an egg that hatches a Razewing Ratha instead of a Rathalos. The monster is believed to bring ruin, and it’s up to the player to team up with and protect it on their journey.

Throughout the title, players can recruit different monsters to their cause, like Tigrex, Nargacuga and many other famous creatures. They can hunt for eggs to breed monsters with unique genes and fight in turn-based battles with other Riders.
The RPG spinoff launched for Nintendo Switch and PC in July last year, and has hit another sales milestone, Capcom confirms.

The Monster Hunter franchise has been one of Capcom’s biggest earners in recent years, with the likes of Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise both seeing impressive global sales. While turn-based RPG spinoff Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin hasn’t seen the same level of sales, it’s certainly done well enough for itself in its own right.

Capcom announced in its recent quarterly fiscal report that Monster Hunter Stories 2 has topped 1.5 million units sold worldwide since launching in July of last year. As of the end of September of 2021, the game had sold 1.3 million units.

In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 8/10, saying, “Fans and newcomers to the series, genre, or spin-off sub-series alike will find a lot to enjoy in Monster Hunter Stories 2, which, despite a few stumbles, presents one of the stronger RPG offerings on the Switch.” You can read the full review through here.

Capcom continues to enjoy consistently strong sales for Resident Evil Village, Monster Hunter Stories 2, and Monster Hunter Rise.

Resident Evil and Monster Hunter have been Capcom’s biggest sellers for quite some time now, with both franchises at their absolute peak. Unsurprisingly, both are continuing to sell consistently, and Capcom, in turn, is reaping the financial benefits.

The Japanese publisher recently announced that it’s increasing its consolidated full-year forecast for operating income and net revenue. That bump comes thanks primarily to the “favourable performances” of Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, while the PC release of Monster Hunter Rise also contributed. Capcom adds that continued sales of legacy titles and those coming as a result of discounts were also factors.

“In our core Digital Contents business, we saw favorable performances from titles such as Resident Evil Village, which is the latest game in the series, as well as Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, an RPG in the Monster Hunter series,” the company wrote. “Further, in addition to the January release of the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise, a title that was originally released in March 2021, sales grew due to the stable popularity of catalog titles—primarily past titles in major series—and due to the synergetic effects of discount sales held in the fourth quarter. Altogether, this has led us to expect net sales to exceed our previous forecast.

“Additionally, we expect operating income, ordinary income and net income attributable to owners of the parent to all outperform our plan.”

Capcom is currently working on DLC for Resident Evil Village, while Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is also due out soon, so it’s likely that both franchises will continue to contribute to the company’s financial performance for some time to come.

At last count, Resident Evil Village had sold over 5.7 million units worldwide, while Monster Hunter Rise stood at 7.7 million units, and Monster Hunter Stories 2 at 1.3 million units.

Capcom's turn-based JRPG has sold over 1.3 million units since its launch in July earlier this year for PC and Nintendo Switch.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter series is in the best shape of its life right now. Monster Hunter World’s sales refuse to slow down, while Monster Hunter Rise has been flying high as well, which is bound to continue with the game’s PC launch and the launch of its expansion, Sunbreak, next year. Of course, earlier this year, Monster Hunter also took a detour to deliver a charming turn-based RPG spinoff in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which has been doing well enough for itself as well.

In their recent quarterly fiscal report, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has now shipped over 1.3 million units worldwide. That’s up from the 1 million units it had shipped in July a few days on from its launch. These aren’t mainline Monster Hunter numbers, of course, but no one expected that sort of a performance from this game, and all things considered, it’s selling quite well.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is available on Nintendo Switch and PC. It recently also added more new content for players to dive into with its latest title update. Read more on that through here.
