Capcom has released a new trailer for its upcoming turn-based RPG Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. Along with giving us a deeper look at some of the themes that we’ll get to see in the story, the trailer also gives us a glimpse at some gameplay. The trailer, which you can check out below, was unveiled during the recent Nintendo Direct, and Capcom has also announced that the RPG will be coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 13, 2026.

Judging by the new trailer, it looks like Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will build on the strong gameplay foundations that had been laid with the previous two titles in the franchise. The turn-based combat system will have players take on the role of a Rider, as they face threats side-by-side with their Monster friends – referred to in the story as Monsties as a portmanteau of Monster and Besties.

While the player character will be able to make use of tools and weapons that we’ve seen from traditional Monster Hunter games, including weapons and armours crafted from slain monsters, Monsties, on the other hand, have their own unique move set that focuses more on elemental strengths and weaknesses, as well as a rock-paper-scissors system of three move types that can counter each other.

The story for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection seemingly revolves around the birth of twin Rathalos, and how their actions ultimately end up deciding the fate of the world. The plot takes place two centuries after a major conflict affected neighbouring kingdoms. The twin Rathalos, thought to have been extinct, hatch from a single egg, which also scares people since the event is believed to be an omen that spells out the destruction of the world.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection was first announced during a Nintendo Direct from back in July. The announcement trailer gave us our first look at what the main story would revolve around, while also confirming that the upcoming turn-based RPG will make use of the same colourful and vibrant art style that has become a hallmark of the Monster Hunter Stories series.

The last major release in the franchise was Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which also had a story that revolved around a friendly Rathalos, with several factions from all over the world trying to get their hands on it. However, unlike the previous titles, the new one seems to have older and more mature characters, which would indicate that we might be in for a more mature story than the fantastical plots of first two games.

The Monster Hunter Stories series has ended up being quite successful for Capcom as far as spin-offs go, with the company confirming back in 2024 that it had sold more than 2 million copies worldwide across all platforms since its 2021 release. Since then, Capcom has also released the first Monster Hunter Stories on PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
