Nioh and Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja has announced that it’s working on a new action game, which will be published by Koei Tecmo, and will be based on the 14th century Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The news comes via a recent livestream celebration of the publisher’s 40th anniversary, and was reported by Famitsu.

The source material is a well-known 14th century novel that focuses on a conflict between three kingdoms – namely Wei, Wu, and Shu. Of course, that is something Koei Tecmo has plenty of familiarity with, being the publisher of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy series, as well as the Dynasty Warriors games, which are also based on the same.

Team Ninja’s new game will be an action one, and not many details are known as of now, including release date and/or platforms. That being said, it would certainly be great to see Team Ninja using its learnings from previous titles on something completely new. Here’s hoping we learn something about it sooner rather than later.
