The long rumored, and basically confirmed by Sega themselves, third entry in the Sonic Racing franchise has now officially been announced by Sega. The game will be called Team Sonic Racing, and, as the name suggests, will involve teamwork among different players, including sharing power ups and boosts- which sounds distinctly like Mario Kart Double Dash to me, though the implementation here is obviously going to be different.

The game will also have three separate character classes, and full vehicle customization, as well as online and local multiplayer, and a full fledged “adventure” mode for a single player campaign- the latter of which the Mario Kart series distinctly lacks.

You can check out the announcement teaser video for yourself below; it shows off the distinctly anthropomorphized Sonic characters in real world style cars, a hilarious dissonant contrast. Team Sonic Racing is developed by Sumo Digital, and will be launching this Winter for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
