3. The IT crowd: Dungeons and Dragons scene

Whilst not a video game per se, Dungeons and Dragons has inspired a vast majority of the clichés and conventions that us gamers hold dear. There are many parodies of the classic pen and paper RPG, but there is one particular episode of Channel 4’s the IT crowd that beats all the contenders. Following Roy’s painful break up with his girlfriend, his co-worker Moss tries to cheer him up in the only way he can; with some good old fashioned questing. Thanks to ITCrowdChannel and thedarkwarriorblake for the two videos respectively.

2. Fable 3 meta-game quest

Though the Fable games are renowned for their jovial sensibilities, Lionhead studio’s Peter Molyneux seems to take himself a bit too seriously on occasion. It was thus pleasing to see the meta-game quest in Fable 3 ridiculing, not only the standard RPG paradigms and conventions but also, some of the more ridiculous aspects of Fable 2. When your character is sent on a quest to help three “wizards” play out a Dungeons and Dragons style game, your hero soon finds himself shrunk down to miniature size and forced to play out the D and D fantasy as if it were real. It’s a defining moment for the wit and humour of the Fable franchise. Thanks go to Overachieverss for the upload.

1. Remi Gaillard: Pac Man

Gaillard has many parody videos that grace the youtube roster, but his best one has to be his imaginative public re-enactment of arcade classic Pac Man. The public spectacle and embarrassment largely contributes to the laughs in the video but, even if you don’t find your sides split, you need to give the guys credit for having the bravery/stupidity to do what they do. Especially when they start getting chased by the security guards. The video is all the work of Remi Gaillard and was uploaded by ngtv.
