The Callisto Protocol Editions Detailed, No Mention of Cross-Gen Upgrade Path

The survival horror game is costlier on current-gen consoles, while a Season Pass has also been mentioned as part of its Digital Deluxe Edition.

The Callisto Protocol looked delightfully gory and terrifying in its first proper showing at the State of Play presentation last week, which is exactly what those looking forward to the game would have wanted it to look like. In the lead-up to its launch towards the tail-end of this year, we’ll likely be seeing a lot more of it, but other details about its launch itself have also surfaced.

It was recently confirmed that The Callisto Protocol will be a cross-gen game as opposed to what it was initially announced as, and as many would have expected, it’s not going to be priced similarly across generations. Pages have gone up for the game on the PlayStation Store, detailing its Digital Deluxe Edition and pre-order bonuses across both PS5 and PS4.

The standard edition will cost the $59.99 on PS4 and $69.99 on PS5. In addition to the base game, it’ll come with a “Retro Prisoner” skin, as well as something called the “Contraband Pack”. Meanwhile, there’s also a Digital Deluxe Edition, which will cost $79.99 on PS4 and $89.99 on PS5. It’ll include everything that’ll come with the standard edition, as well as a season pass, though exactly what the season pass will entail remains to be seen.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of an upgrade path from PS4 to PS5 on any of these pages. While the game being priced differently on the two consoles is, sadly, not surprising, it would be surprising if no paid upgrade path were being offered. Hopefully, that information will arrive in the coming days.

The Callisto Protocol is due out on December 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A more extended look at its gameplay has been confirmed for Summer Game Fest on June 9.
