Shinji Mikami’s latest horror epic The Evil Within, releasing in Japan as Psycho Break, receive a new trailer at Sony’s recent press event in Japan. Check it out above, and judge for yourself whether things have only just started to get messed up.

The Evil Within sees players assuming the role Detective Sebastian Castellanos who investigates a horrible murder, only for a mysterious force to kill his fellow officers and drag him into an alternate world full of death, misery and lots of scary monsters. Gameplay will be typical survival horror – limited ammunition, puzzles and an emphasis on running over fighting creatures head-on – and there’s plenty of psychological insanity that will push you to the brink.

The Evil Within will be releasing in 2014 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, and will reportedly mark Mikami’s last directorial effort. Let us know what you think of the new trailer below.
