Horses are the earliest and most reliable forms of quick transportation in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If all you want to do is get from point A to point B in the early game, before you have unlocked fast travel points and Skytowers and all manner of flying machines, then the average horse will save you a lot of running around on foot and frequently stopping for stamina replenishment. This Tears of the Kingdom guide will tell you everything you need to know about getting a horse plus the locations of all known Stables that can house them for your convenience.
Taming Wild Horses
This is a fairly simple task to accomplish but can take a lot of repetition and potential failure to master correctly. It involves nothing more than being stealthy as you approach a horse in the wild from behind, clear out of its line of sight. Once you get the prompt to ride it, do so, and then press <L> to soothe it as further prompted. This action will take its toll on your stamina, so either have a full wheel before mounting the horse, or have stamina replenishment recipes on hand.
If you are having difficulty with the stealth aspect, there is an easier method. Have a weak bow on hand and fuse arrows with either White Chuchu Jelly or Ice Fruit to fire at the target horse in order to freeze it temporarily and keep it from bolting away in terror. The bow needs to be low-level so as not to accidentally kill the horse instead. Once frozen, take a ready position beside the horse, and mount it as quickly as you can, the very instant the prompt appears after the horse thaws out.

After Taming
For a good long while after you have tamed a wild horse, you will have to intermittently soothe it and raise its bond rating with yourself. Make your way to a stable while doing so. Bring some apples with you to feed your new horse in order to aid in raising its friendship rating even further. You can either manually feed it directly out of the palm of your hand, or set the apple on the ground and let the horse amble up on its own.
Stables and Locations
Once you arrive at a stable, visually identifiable from a distance by puffs of smoke drifting from its chimney, you can proceed to register the horse with the stable master. Initiate dialogue from horseback itself, if you do not want to dismount. This will also provide you the opportunity to see your horse’s statistics in strength, speed, stamina, pull, and temperament, as well as your current bond rating. At this point, you can actually choose to not register the horse, if you are dissatisfied with your horse’s stats. Your first horse registration will be free, and will cost twenty rupees thereafter. After naming it, you can choose to either carry on riding it, or board it at the stables.
