The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gets a 5 Minute Gameplay Showing At The Game Awards

Disappointingly presented.

The game that won everyone’s hearts at E3 continues to look great, though Nintendo chose to show it off in a rather baffling way, cutting between combat and exploration too quickly for anything to sink in and make much of an impact. Remember, the reason people fell in love with Breath of the Wild at E3 in the first place was because of how much agency it gave players- tonight we got to see none of that thanks to the rapid cuts.

The version we saw wasn’t even the Switch version, in case you were hoping for that- it was still the Wii U version (and the frame rate still looks pretty rough). That said, the game, whatever we did get to see, looked pretty good. I just wish it had been more in line with the E3 showings, is all.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is due out on Wii U and Nintendo Switch in 2017.
