The upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks to be a full 3D realization of the original NES The Legend of Zelda game, and Nintendo have made no bones about that fact. So it should come as no surprise that when they chose to usher in 2017 with a gorgeous piece of artwork for Breath of the Wild, they chose to directly evoke the NES original game.
The artwork shows Link sitting at the edge of a mountain, overlooking a Hyrule drenched in orange sunlight as the sun sets- a wonderful callback to the NES game. You can check it out for yourself below.
Breath of the Wild evokes the original Zelda in more ways, too, as its open ended nature is an attempt to directly recreate the NES game’s open world in a 3D space. Whether or not Nintendo succeeds remains to be seen, however. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch on Wii U and Nintendo Switch this year- newest reports state it will be there for the Switch’s launch after all.
