The Paraglider is a great upgrade from the horse in terms of map traversal, making traveling across vast distances less of a chore. While one might think that the Paraglider is easy to come by, based on prior experience with Breath of the Wild, and also considering the sky layer and new flying mechanics in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it is actually quite possible to completely miss the very start of the mini quest for getting it. If you have been playing the game for quite a while and have not yet unlocked the Paraglider, don’t be embarrassed, because you are far from the only one that has managed to do so. This guide will detail how to acquire the Paraglider in Zelda: TOTK, as well as modify its appearance.

How To Get The Paraglider

During the course of the Crisis at Hyrule Castle story quest, make your way to the First Gatehouse in Hyrule Castle located in Hyrule Field. Proceed to the top of the guardhouse here, ascending the stairs and the steeple to the very roof, where you will speak to Hoz and a cutscene will play. Return to Lookout Landing via fast travel, and converse with Purah. Once done with this cutscene, proceed on to the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower. Once all the other Skyview Towers have been activated, and the fast travel point has been unlocked, Purah will finally grant you the Paraglider.

The Paraglider operates off of your stamina, and once depleted you will plummet like a stone. Not to worry though–if you are falling a long way down, you will be given an additional lifesaving deployment of the Paraglider for a short duration, in order to break your fall and touch down safely.

While gliding you can deploy the scope, not just to survey better, but also to engage slow motion, giving you some more time to get your bearings.

Changing Paraglider Fabric Designs

The Paraglider’s default fabric is nice and all, but there are a number of customization options available to you to make it your own. Navigate to Hateno Village (3403, -2142, 0121) and speak to Sayge at the Kochi dye shop. Finish the conversation to receive a free fabric. Change the Paraglider’s cloth for a cost of twenty rupees once, and then speak to Sayge once again to receive a quest. He wants you to take photographs of various fauna to base his very own designs upon. Complete these little side quests, as well as ones you will receive from various other unexpected NPCs such as stable masters, to unlock more fabric designs for your Paraglider.

A selection of fabrics that can be unlocked in-game:

  • Cece Fabric: Talk to Sayge at the Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village.
  • Sheikah Fabric: Buy any armor from Claree in Kakariko Village.
  • Lucky Clover Gazette Fabric: Upon completion of two Lucky Clover Gazette side quests.
  • Nostalgic Fabric: Unlock the treasure chest atop the Temple of Time Ruins in the Great Plateau.
  • Hudson Construction Fabric: Construct your house in Tarrey Town in Akkala.
  • Yiga Clan Fabric: Beat three enemies in the Yiga Clan Minigame.

Scanning Amiibos For Paraglider Fabrics

The other major method to acquire fabrics is Amiibo scanning which can net you a number of designs that appear to be otherwise unobtainable from within the game thus far. Even so, scanning Amiibos itself has a very rare chance to drop Paraglider fabrics inside of a treasure chest, and you may have to resort to laboriously save-scumming and changing the system date between scans. Fabrics that can drop include one based on Majora’s Mask, among others:

  • Guardian (Breath of the Wild): Ancient-Sheikah Fabric
  • Bokoblin (Breath of the Wild): Bokoblin Fabric
  • Link (Link’s Awakening): Egg Fabric
  • Ganondorf (Super Smash Bros.): Demon King Fabric
  • Link Archer (Breath of the Wild): Tunic of Memories Fabric
  • Link (Tears of the Kingdom): Tunic of Memories Fabric
  • Daruk (Breath of the Wild): Goron-Champion Fabric
  • Link (Legend of Zelda): Pixel Fabric
  • Link (Majora’s Mask): Majora’s Mask Fabric
  • Link (Skyward Sword): Sword-Spirit Fabric
  • Link (Twilight Princess): Mirror of Twilight Fabric
  • Link (Super Smash Bros.): Mirror of Twilight Fabric
  • Link Rider (Breath of the Wild): Hylian-Hood Fabric
  • Mipha (Breath of the Wild): Zora-Champion Fabric
  • Revali (Breath of the Wild): Rito-Champion Fabric
  • Sheik (Super Smash Bros.): Sheik Fabric
  • Toon Link (Wind Waker): King of Red Lions Fabric
  • Toon Link (Super Smash Bros.): King of Red Lions Fabric
  • Urbosa (Breath of the Wild): Gerudo-Champion Fabric
  • Young Link (Super Smash Bros.): Lon Lon Ranch Fabric
  • Zelda (Super Smash Bros.): Princess of Twilight Fabric
  • Zelda (Breath of the Wild): Hyrule-Princess Fabric
  • Zelda (Wind Waker): Bygone-Royal Fabric

That was a comprehensive guide to the Paraglider and its currently known fabrics in Tears of the Kingdom.
