The Secret World – No Plans for free-to-play Yet

"It’s a fast changing business and we have to adapt ourselves."

At a time when most studios are turning to free-to-play for MMOs, The Secret World will stay at the subscription model of a while, according to Funcom. The game wasn’t a massive hit commercially and MMOs like Star Wars: The Old Republic has already gone F2P after seeing a decrease in subscriber base.

What could be the reason preventing Funcom from turning it into F2P? Well, here’s what they had to say.

“It’s a fast changing business and we have to adapt ourselves. But right now there’s currently no plans,” Funcom communications director Erling Ellingsen told Eurogamer.

“It’s really important to us with the business model we’ve chosen. It sounds very emotional, but I almost feel like we need to prove that this business model has not gone the way of the dinosaur by delivering content constantly to people, and making people feel like there’s value in it,” director Joel Bylos revealed.
