6. Cave Story
The big problems with free games are often a lack of quality or a lack of content. Indie scene darling Cave Story can be accused of neither. As a deep homage to the 8-bit generation and a fantastic game in and of itself, Cave Story is one of the best free to play games out there. Hell, you could probably argue it's also the best indie game ever.
