The recent release of Resident Evil 6 has proved divisive among fans of the series. Whether you love or hate the new entry though, one thing is certain; nearly all the survival horror elements of the game have been killed off unceremoniously. It is just another part of the slow and painful death for the survival horror game, one that seems to have gone on for years now, with every subsequent botched title acting as a proverbial twist of the knife. There are times when I wish we could just put the genre out of its misery. That said, 2013 could be the year for things to turn around, and here are ten games that could support such a theory.

1. Until Dawn
A motion controlled PS3 exclusive, Until Dawn takes the unique niche of the teen horror film. The only other game to attempt the teen horror sub-genre in recent memory, Obscure, was a pretty awesome PS2 horror title, and we can only hope Until Dawn will offer the same excellence on PS3. Featuring a HUD free interface and a story that adapts to how you play, this could be a sleeper hit for 2013.
