#13. RESIDENT EVIL 2

Resident Evil 2 Remake_09

Capcom brought Resident Evil back from the dead – no pun intended – with Resident Evil 7, but while the first person horror title is very much responsible for kicking off the franchise’s revival, it wasn’t until the incredible Resident Evil 2 remake that the series managed to re-enter the stratosphere. Because Resident Evil 2 is – just like the classic it was based on – a mind-blowing game. It is legitimately among the best games in this venerated series, and a masterclass in how to remake a beloved classic while still somehow managing to feel completely new and fresh. Resident Evil 2 feels like a mashup of all the greatest things this series has ever done, from the atmosphere of Resident Evil 7 to the perspective of the over-the-shoulder third person era of the series, to the slow, palpable horror and immaculate level design of the very first Resident Evil games. It’s also an impressive technical accomplishment, with a ridiculous level of detail, excellent lighting that adds immensely to the game’s oppressive atmosphere, detailed facial and character models and animations, and outstanding audio design. It represents both Capcom and Resident Evil at their absolute best.
