#11. SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2

There are very few games out there you can actually make an argument for being perfect (or close to perfect, at any rate), but Super Mario Galaxy 2 is unquestionably in that rarefied company. It takes the incredible concept of the first game and polishes it to a sheen, and then just lets loose, with every new level introducing an incredible new idea and mechanic, totally mastering it, and then discarding it to move on to the next- and this is something it keeps on doing, over and over and over again. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is an absolute joyride, an exhibition of unbridled creativity and design ingenuity, bursting with gleeful charm and a love for the craft the way only Mario games can be. Before Galaxy 2 first launched, there were many who were skeptical of it, cynically calling it “Galaxy 1.5” and labelling it a lazy semi-sequel. What we got was anything but- what we got was one of the greatest games ever made.
