1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
I’m pretty sure you all knew that this game would top this list the instant you started reading it. I’m sorry to have been so predictable, but honestly, I have no choice with this, especially in face of hard, solid facts, which place Call of Duty’s sales in excess of 15 million units every single year for the last four years, with Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, in particular, having sold more than 20 million each. Call of Duty is a massive retail juggernaut, and it can push units easily, and, like it or not, it is what sells the most.
Even though its star might be fading, Call of Duty’s retail power isn’t going away anytime soon. Even if it fails to sell less than its two immediate predecessors, Modern Warfare 3 will still sell in the ballpark of 20 million units. And if you think that’s a figure to scoff at, you clearly need brain surgery.
Ultimately, it’ll be the biggest selling game this holiday, as it is every year. It’ll also probably go on to be one of the biggest selling games of all time. For a game that so many people seem to be hating on, that’s mighty impressive.
