A role-playing video game series created by Shigesato Itoi for Nintendo. Released as Mother 2 in Japan, Earthbound takes place in more modern American settings but told from a Japanese perspective. As it became apparent that the game was parodying American culture and the RPG genre as a whole, it folded back and revealed a highly enjoyable experience underneath.
