Super Smash Bros.
It may be Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that ultimately end up carving a place for themselves in fighting game history, but one must not forget the game which started it all- the original Super Smash Bros., way back on the Nintendo 64. It was an unlikely video game, taking all of your beloved Nintendo characters, and having them beat the ever loving life out of each other on stages inspired by Nintendo locales. The mechanics were quirky, the techniques were simple, and everything about the game defied fighting game conventions. And we all loved it for it. Today, it’s more interesting as a piece of history than anything, but it’s something you should look into regardless, to see how far one of gaming’s biggest franchises has come.
